The Stamp Sauna and a three-week update

Yep, that was the temp in my stamp room this afternoon. I haven't been in my room for more than three weeks (gasp! I know!) and this is what greeted me when I finally got up there earlier.

Where have I been? OMG! August has been crazy around here. After the katalog kick-off party, it was non-stop!

My Father-in-law Ray's 80th birthday party in Pemberville on Sunday, Aug 8.
Drop Reagan off at Kelly's Island for Military Kid's camp on Monday, Aug. 9, drive home.
Wednesday, Aug. 11 Kim and her boy came over for some stamping.
Thursday, packed up for the weekend in Toledo and the week of camping.
Friday, Aug. 13, the kids, Max the dog and I drove to meet Uncle Tony to get life preservers and pick up Reagan at camp. Head to Aunt Kim's for the weekend. Get to Kim's; all is well. Go get ice cream. All is horrible; Max killed one of Kim's cats while we were gone. His welcome mat for staying there during our trip is revoked. I drive home that night with Max; kids stay with Kim. Arrange for dog sitter while on the road.
Saturday, Aug. 14, tidy up the house and finish packing for trip. Coordinate with neighbor girl for Max; head back to Toledo for Mitch's 25th HS reunion. Kim still has the kids. HS reunion is wonderful and we have a great time.
Sunday, Aug. 15, pack up jeep and head north for our camping trip. Camp at a state park around Grayling--it's COLD!
Monday, Aug. 16, we head north and west to Watersmeet, Michigan.
Tuesday, Aug. 17, we canoe into our campsite and remote camp till Saturday. This one sentence doesn't do the trip justice. It was awesome! Mitch wants to move there.
Saturday, Aug. 21, we canoe back, tour a waterfall and start driving home.
We get home late Sunday night and spend Monday Aug. 23 unpacking, doing laundry and putting stuff away.
Monday night, Aug. 23, kids' meet the teacher night at school.
Tuesday, Aug. 24, first day of school for R and B.

Today was the first day I've been able to get to my stamp room. I've been in cleaning mode since I haven't really done anything all summer--I've been too busy playing with the kids!

Getting ready for the Season's Greetings Stash class tomorrow night. Two of the three cards.

Cross Creek Block Watch Community Picnic

I'll be hosting a table at the Cross Creek Block Watch picnic tomorrow evening. It's the third year I've had a table and this year, Beth will be coming also. It's always a great family adventure.

Start with about 500 people. Add in free food from Chick-fil-a and goodies from Target.

Hilliard police and fire departments always put on a great demo. Horses running full speed around the park. Police dogs taking a man down. The fire trucks putting the laddrs way up. The kids have a great time running the sirens ALL NIGHT LONG!

Then the raffle ticket guy starts announcing the winners of the raffle drawings.

All in all, it's a great time. I always have such fun talking with everyone who stops by my table. I do try to take a moment and walk around to the other vendors also and chat.

Stop by and chat for a bit.

Katalog Kick-Off and Stamp sale is today!

I'm not sure I'll have enough room for everything! I have enough super cool swaps and sneaky peeks from Convention to fill a table. Then there are the 4 BOXES full of stamps for sale. Can't forget the DSP, accessories, ribbon, class kits...

Random pictures from Convention

Beth had the Prize Patrol winning band! 3 Conventions and no Prize Patrol for me. If you'd like to win something from the Prize Patrol, then come with me! So far those who come with me are VERY LUCKY!

Check in Day

We picked up our bags and stamp sets, hit Memento Mall (where we can buy SU! products not available anywhere else. I forgot to take a picture before I packed up my new craft tote and a few other way cool things!)

The office and distribution center in Riverton is so beautiful. We had a great tour of SLC then headed south to Riverton for a quick tour of the facility.

Then we headed back to SLC for a dinner with the women behind Class in a Flash, a fanastic resource for people who like unique classes and projects.

It was a full day, leading up to a fun night groovin' with the SU! staff at the Groovy Party.

Convention is over and I made it home!

I have a ton of pictures from my 5 days in Salt Lake City. The internet at the hotel wasn't cooperating AT ALL and I was too lazy to go downstairs to post anything.

OMG! I had the Best time at Convention. Awesome classes, demonstrations, meeting new people from around the country and Canada. So many great ideas that I can't wait to share with you.

I'm still recovering from the trip home, and haven't downloaded the last of the pictures from my camera. But let's see what I did get done....

Hmmm, here we go. We had delays getting out of Cincinnati due to some thunderstorms so we were really late getting into SLC. Grabbed some dinner, then crashed. But couldn't sleep on Weds. morning. Woke up early and watched the sun rise over the mountains.

We headed to the Salt Palace (which Beth thought was a palace made out of salt! Ha!Ha!) to pick up our bags and stamp sets.

So much went on, so I'll spread them out a bit!

Tuesday, July 20, 2010

Last one before I head out for Salt Lake City!

I had about 20 of the embossed ovals in my scrap bin from another project that I can't remember why I did them, but I used these up for some general swaps to have on hand in SLC. I used the color coach for the cards with the Going Gray backgrounds and I had those cardfronts in the scrapb in also. Add some rhinestone brads and 5/8" grosgrain ribbon and it was done. I did a few on Old Olive backgrounds (which I like more, but I'm not keeping the GG ones!)

I've been to the bank, the library and the post office. I am (mostly) packed. Swaps are finished. And my kids and my sister know the plan for the rest of the week. I will NOT be up till the wee hours in my stamp sauna tonight! It's a record!

I have about 35 more swaps in various stages that I'll take along and put together on the plane.

Monday, July 19, 2010

A few more Convention swaps!

Here's another technique swap. This one is brayered background.

I made these fabric flowers using the Blossom Party Die and various fabrics I found in the clearance bin. Bowling Green colors, baby! Can't go wrong.

Getting Ready for Convention!

Everyone gets the same bag. Now, it's cool to see thousands of people carrying the same bag, but sometimes it's hard not to pick up the wrong one. So I made these for my roommate gifts.

2010 Convention technique swaps

I signed up for a few organized swaps during Convention. I like this kind of swap because I know exactly how many swaps to make and that I'll get quality examples back.

I choose Faux Paper lantern, Wax Resist, Embossed Reinker Spread and Brayered Background Sky.

So far I have these finished:
Embossed Reinker Spread

I should have warned you-----

That once school is out, I go into a summer slow-down. Well, a slow-down in certain areas. Posting seems to be an area that has fallen into that tomorrow category. My SU! newsletters are also in that category--but that's another story.

At the beginning of the summer, we didn't have much on the calendar. That has quickly changed! With the kids a bit older, we seem to split our time between the pool, the movies and bowling. I have to say it's a better gig than going to an office everyday!

The last weekend in June we took the kids out to Scott Air Force Base in Illinois to visit an old family friend who was retiring with 20 years service. I've been to many Army retirements over the years and Steve's Air Force group totally outdid themselves! It was amazing! Then we spent some time sight-seeing in St. Louis. We toured the Arch and the Anheiser-Busch Brewery before heading home.

Then it was the annual Gargac Backyard Camp-out over the 4th of July weekend. We headed up to Toledo and set up camp on Friday. Our hosts, BIL Matt and SIL Jill, sure know how to hold a party. Over the course of the weekend, 76 people visited and 44 camped out at least one night. It was so much fun! I had my camera, but didn't take a single picture during the weekend, but I took this one of the kids on the way home.

Reagan's birthday was next. She seems to get a week of birthday fun.

Yesterday we went to the Madison County Fair. It's a tradition. The kids and I have been every year--even when Mitch was in Iraq. Again, with the kids a bit older, it was so much fun! They rode every ride they could! Aunt Cici went and was the "adult" when the kids weren't quite tall enough to go on their own.

I'll post my stamping projects that I'm working on for Convention tomorrow.

After a 9-month hiatus from my monthly PMS Night at Donato's on Norton Rd, we are back on for this Sunday! I'm so excited to be doing this again! Come and make this sweet gift bag. All supplies and an instruction sheet provided for $3.00. Patterns of Designer Series Paper will vary. No need to RSVP for PMS Night, unless you are making the bag.

End of the Year Gifts

Using the fabulous (but retiring) Cottage Wall DSP I made up a set of cards and a little gift bag for the kids' teachers and the bus driver.

The cards used the one sheet wonder philosphy using the Butterfly punch, Beautiful Butterflies BS die and the Circle Fire Rhinestone brads as accents.

I used the template found on Lyssa Zwolanek's blog

Come to PMS Night this Sunday at Donato's on Norton and make one of these sweet bags.

Summer Mini Swaps

Go, Graduate and Elements of Style and the medium jewelry tag punch are featured on this great card by Mel Kulig.
Bouquet Bunch and gorgeous Bermuda Bay cardstock (on sale right now while supplies last) and DSP in Melon Mambo and Bermuda Bay were featured on this card by Melanie Wysong.
Favorite Thoughts and Greenhouse Garden are paired with Autumn Traditions DSP (retiring this month) on this sweet card by Sandy Haynes. This is a great example of a card layout that would be easy to mass produce, but be a great card.

The wheel builder Candle Crazy and stamp set Party Hearty were used by Lorene Inouye on this cheerful card. She also showed a great way to use DSP is a economical way yet still showing the great 2-sided versatility. Here she used Island Oasis DSP from the summer mini.

Summer Mini Swaps

A Little Bit of Magic (Toni Turbride) and Tropical Party (Michelle Fischer) are featured in this picture.

Celebrate (retiring this month) Tropical Party(Peggy Lucas); King of the Grill(Sandy Hoefakker) are featured here.
The DSP behind the King of the Grill stamp is the new Travel Journal DSP.
See the new awesome Square Lattice Embossing Folder. Toni also used Bitty Buttons and the Tiny Tag from the mini.

More to come...off to make a wedding card that's later today!

Fiskars Trimmers

But not the Fiskars trimmer that I'd LIKE to be using.

Ever since I noticed this tag the other day, I've been waiting to post this. Too funny.

I've been cleaning up the fenceline on the road side of the yard the past few days. As the temps got higher, I kept asking myself why I didn't do this back in April when it was in the 50s!

But it's mostly finished. The rest can be done with a weed whacker. It looks so much better.

I got Summer Mini swaps back, so that will be coming up.....

More Notecards and Elements of Style

LOVE THESE NOTECARDS!
My two oldests' teachers love purple. This was made with them in mind. I sent some homemade pumpkin muffins in to the kids' teachers last week and sent these notecards in with them.

Here's another idea using the spotlighting technique.

Last night's class made these notecards. So fun!

Notecard Kit Class

Here are 5 sets of notecards made up for end-of-the-year teacher gifts. Super easy and quick.

Colors used are Going Gray and the current In-colors (Melon Mambo, Rich Razzleberry, Crushed Curry, Bermuda Bay, Dusty Durango). All notecards used the stamp set Elements of Style.

The notecards and envelopes are one of the best deals in the catalog: 20 notecards and envelopes for $5.95!

The main stamped image is the size of a trading card 21/2 x 31/2. This means you can get 10 cuts for every sheet.

(template from Mirkwood designs http://www.ruthannzaroff.com/mirkwooddesigns/tcdiag.htm)

Such an economical way to thank your teacher's this year.

FOR THE GUYS CARD CLASS

Here's one card we'll be making at the FOR THE GUYS card class next week. It uses the great Ala Carte stamp from the summer mini. We'll also be using the Ala Carte stamp Motorcycle. FAB for those hard to make guy cards.

Other cards that will also be offered: Adult birthday, Father's Day, boy birthday, baby.

Be sure to reserve your spot by Friday, May 21 so I have enough card kits ready for you.
20 cards, $20.

What exactly is a "Crank and Fill" class?

I got my idea for the "Crank and Fill" class the other day when Beth was over and she let me use her new large flower punch and the Texturz plates #4--both of which I don't own. I proceed to punch out a bunch of flowers in different color cs/dsp and then used the texturz plates to make some embossed cardfronts.
I made up these cards for my MOM Connection leaders

I just "cranked" out a bunch of images/punches/embossed cardfronts to "fill" my box.

Here is my "Crank and Fill" Box

A

I was in a swap awhile back that did the same thing and I received stamped cardfronts of sets that I don't own, but have been able to make some great cards out of since then. Like this one using "As Close as a Memory":

and this set of 10 cards that came as a one-sheet wonder. I was able to make up these cards in less than an hour because the main image had already been stamped!

So much fun!

A week of snow days!

My kids FINALLY were able to go back to school yesterday after having more than a week off of school.

This has been a crazy few weeks. Two weeks ago (today) the kids were sent home early because the weather was getting nasty. We got between 6-8 inches during that storm. Cleaned up the drive, the kids had skating and life was normal. We woke up to a two-hour delay and Cadence had no school. Monday night the snow began again. No school Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Wednesday and Thursday were called off because our county was under a Level 2--which was called off about 5 minutes after school was called on thursday! Friday was a scheduled day off for conferences. Kim and gang made it down from Toledo for the weekend. We had a great time skating and sledding! They headed home Sunday night, just a few hours ahead of another storm! Monday was off for the holiday and more snow fell Monday night--another 6-8 inches! No school Tuesday and Wednesday AGAIN! I'm not sure who was more excited to go back to school--me or the kids!

Yesterday was spent tidying up the house, laundry and some stamping! Finalizing projects for the retreat and March's classes.

Here we go!

Here is the Forget-Me-Not card keeper.

(retired DSP, Bashful Blue stitched ribbon)

This class includes the Forget-me-not keeper, a pack of Designer Series Paper (Cottage Wall, Thoroughtly Modern or Tea Party), ribbon, sticky strip and extras. You have the choice of making your keeper to organize by catagory or by month (calendars included). Just let me know which DSP and which type of keeper you will make.
